Can I search by governorate or only by category?

Both. You can filter by any of the 28 categories (restaurants, doctors, contractors, salons, mechanics and more) and any of the six Lebanese governorates simultaneously.

Are the reviews real or can businesses pay to boost them?

Reviews are real. Every customer review is tied to a unique transaction code issued at the point of sale, then checked by bilingual human moderators (Arabic, French, English) within 4 hours. Pay-to-play boosts and sponsored placements have been explicitly banned since 2021.

I'm a Lebanese business owner — is listing free?

Yes. Basic verified listings are free to claim. Premium tiers (priority placement, response-rate badge eligibility, analytics) are optional and never influence review ranking or placement on the directory.

05The Honest Bit

How a review on Mafi Wasta actually gets there.

Every review you read on this directory started as a transaction. Not a feeling, not a vibe — a receipt. When a verified business finishes a sale, our system issues a unique transaction code. That code is the only path a customer can use to leave a review. It is short, it expires, and it is one-time.

Before any business shows up in your search results, it has cleared our 3-step identity check: a commercial circular from the Ministry of Finance, an ID from the owner or authorized signatory, and an on-site photo taken by one of our verifiers. Over 12,400 Lebanese businesses have made it through. The ones who haven't simply don't appear.

Once a review is submitted, it goes through moderation. Arabic, French, and English are checked by human moderators within four hours; automated systems catch slurs, doxxing, and obvious nonsense within ninety seconds. The review then either publishes, returns to the customer for revision, or is rejected with a reason. We tell businesses why a review didn't go up, and we tell customers why theirs was held back. Neither side gets to game it.

We banned pay-to-play ranking in 2021, our founding year. Sponsorships, boosts, and "premium placement" do not exist in our algorithm. Verified reviews, response rate, and tenure on the platform are weighted equally. That decision cost us revenue; it also made us the directory where "ask your cousin" stops being a procurement strategy.

A 2024 American University of Beirut independent study found that reported wasta-based hiring incidents among our partner businesses dropped by 41% after twelve months on the directory. Correlation, not causation — but it's the cleanest number we have.
